What is Diverse@asu.edu?

Diverse@asu.edu is a listserv for faculty, staff and students who are interested in diversity-related news, information and events at ASU. Specifically, the list is used for the distribution of flyers and event information inviting faculty and staff to Office of Institutional Inclusion-sponsored events as well as dissemination of information regarding related activities sponsored by other university departments and units.

Why join Diverse@asu.edu?

With such a large university in many places, it can be difficult to stay informed about the multitude of diversity-related events and programs that regularly take place on campus. A subscription to Diverse@asu.edu is a convenient solution to this challenge.

Subscribers to Diverse@asu.edu will benefit from membership through the following ways:

• Receive information about upcoming events sponsored by the Office of Institutional Inclusion, a unit within the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University.
• Receive a periodic newsletter containing information about diversity-related news and events sponsored by departments and units throughout ASU.

We are mindful of the high volume of emails that many people receive and therefore we are judicious with the messages and information we distribute.

How is diversity defined at ASU?

As noted in the ASU Diversity Plan, diversity is defined in terms of representation and inclusion.

Representation reflects the extent to which our students, staff, faculty and administrators proportionately reflect the regional and national populations served by our public institution.

Inclusion encompasses empowerment and voice among all members of the university community in the areas of scholarship, teaching, learning and governance.

We recognize that race/ethnicity and gender historically have been markers of diversity in institutions of higher education; we further believe that diversity includes additional categories such as socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, nationality and intellectual perspective.

How do I join Diverse@asu.edu?

Option 1

Simply visit the listserv signup application and fill out the required information.

Option 2

a. Send an email to listserv@asu.edu.

b. Type the word "subscribe" in the subject line of the email.

c. Type the words "subscribe DIVERSE" followed by your name, as the text of the email.

Be sure to delete any other text (like a signature) you may have at the end of your message.

How do I unsubscribe from Diverse@asu.edu?

Option 1

Simply visit the listserv signup application and click “Unsubscribe.”

Option 2

a. Send an email to listserv@asu.edu.

b. Type the words "unsubscribe DIVERSE " followed by your name, as the text of the email. Be sure to delete any other text (like a signature) you may have at the end of your message.

c. Leave everything else in the subject line and message field blank.

Posting to Diverse@asu.edu

Only Office of Institutional Inclusion staff members can post to the listserv. To request an event or news item be considered for addition to the newsletter, please email institutionalinclusion@asu.edu. 

We also encourage university staff and faculty to post relevant events on the Diversity Events calendar, which is synced with the ASU Events calendar. To post an event, simply add it to the main ASU Events calendar and, when filling out the event submission form, be sure to select diversity under the theme field. Once approved, the event will then appear on the Diversity Events calendar.
